married couple and I are planning to go to eat crabs on the Sea of Japan coast this winter. We are planning to travel to Hyogo (Kasumi) or Kyoto (Maji, Amino). Are there any accommodations where we can eat crabs at a reasonable price? We are not looking for luxury or hot springs on this trip. Please let me know if there are any guesthouses or Ryokan (Japanese inn) where you can say "The crabs here are cheap and delicious."

How about visiting Kinosaki Onsen in northern Hyogo Prefecture? In the hot spring Ryokan (Japanese inn) around here, crab dishes start being served in large numbers in the winter. One hot spring Ryokan (Japanese inn) we recommend is Nishimuraya Honkan. They serve dishes made with only carefully selected crabs.

Meals served in a private room with a sunken kotatsu included crab sashimi, grilled crab, crab sukiyaki, and everything else was so delicious that I ate so much I didn't want to look at crabs for a while (in a good way). The spring water was gentle on the skin, and open-air bath was relaxing with a beautiful sky. If you're lucky, you can enjoy the view of boats carrying crabs entering the harbor from your room facing the sea.

Although it is in a different direction from Echizen, how about Sakaiminato, which boasts the largest crab harvest on the Japan Sea coast? The hotel recommends "Natural Hot Spring Sakaiminato Yunagi no Yu Onyado Nono". If possible, it is cheaper and tastier to eat at a nearby restaurant.

It's the season for delicious crab. This inn in Hyogo is cheap and delicious. Please check the website for seasonal dishes. Weekdays are cheap, easy to book, and the roads are clear. The landlady's hospitality is wonderful, so you'll want to go again and again.
