  • National important cultural resort TOSHIHARU
  • Could you please recommend a place to stay in a Kyoto townhouse? My budget is less than 20,000 yen for two people Accommodation only.

I heard that there are lodgings in Kyoto that use "machiya" houses. I would like to stay there, but it is difficult to rent an entire authentic machiya house because it is expensive.
Please let me know about a reasonably priced place to stay, even if it's "machiya-style". Please exclude hotels like guesthouses and youth hostels. My budget is less than 20,000 yen for two people with no meals. I would prefer a place near Kyoto Station, Shijo, Gion, or Kiyomizu-dera.

National important cultural resort TOSHIHARU

326 Benzaiten-cho, Shimogyo-ku

  • Affordable price and good service

  • This Ryokan (Japanese inn) is a 5-minute walk from Gojo Station, and the courtyard is carefully maintained, so it is recommended as a place where you can spend time in the good old Kyoto style. The rooms are spacious Japanese-style rooms, and there is also a private bath, so it is recommended for spending the whole day relaxing in the inn.

  • This is an inn where you can experience the atmosphere of Kyoto.

  • If you are looking for a recommended Kyoto-style inn, I recommend Toushiharu Ryokan. It is located a 2-3 minute walk from Gojo subway station. It is a Kyoto-style Ryokan (Japanese inn), so you can enjoy the atmosphere of Kyoto. The room overlooked the courtyard and had a tokonoma alcove, which was very Japanese-style.

  • It's a charming and highly recommended Ryokan (Japanese inn).

  • Conveniently located just a 5-minute walk from Gojo Station on the subway, this hotel is convenient for sightseeing in Kyoto city. You can relax in the hotel and rooms, which are registered as national tangible cultural properties. The hotel offers excellent hospitality, including complimentary matcha tea.

  • It is a slightly more luxurious accommodation than other machiya houses.

  • I recommend "Kyoto Machiya Inn Toshiharu Ryokan," which is a relatively high-end Ryokan (Japanese inn) among Kyoto's machiya. It's on Suwamachi Street. Even though it's a high-end hotel, it's still a machiya, so it's not that expensive. The rooms are also cleaned nicely and have a feeling of cleanliness.

  • Ryokan (Japanese inn) where you can feel at home

  • Recently, more and more people are saying that they would like to stay in a Kyoto machiya, and it is becoming popular. I recommend the Kyoto Machiya Ryokan (Japanese inn) Toshiharu Ryokan. It is located on a quiet back street and blends in with the townscape. It is a traditional Japanese style building. Please visit it at least once.

  • The main house and storehouse of this inn are registered tangible cultural properties.

  • If you want to stay in a machiya in Kyoto, we have a great place for you. We recommend the "Kyoto Machiya Ryokan (Japanese inn) Toushiharu Ryokan." It is a purely Japanese-style machiya, and part of the inn (the main house and storehouse) is designated as a national registered tangible cultural property. It is getting harder to make reservations these days, so it's best to book early.

  • A historic Japanese Ryokan (Japanese inn)

  • This inn is a historic building built in the Meiji period, and has a townhouse-style atmosphere. It is conveniently located within a 5-minute walk from the subway station (Gojo), and is close to the nearest station. The rooms have a tokonoma alcove and overlook the courtyard, so you can enjoy a Japanese Ryokan (Japanese inn). Although it is an authentic Ryokan (Japanese inn), the price is reasonable, which is nice.

  • The inn is within a 10-minute walk from Karasuma.

  • The inn is a two-minute walk from Gojo Station on the subway, but it's also recommended to walk 10 minutes from Shijo-Karasuma Station to enjoy the atmosphere of Kyoto. I arrived in the evening when I stayed there, and the entrance and garden were dimly lit, making it feel like you've traveled back in time to the Meiji period. It is also designated as a national cultural property, so if the inn staff are not busy, it's fun to ask them for guidance and explanations.
