I'd like to enjoy the hot springs of Yufuin with my family. Small children have delicate skin, so a mild hot spring would be ideal. Are there any hot spring Ryokan (Japanese inn) that are OK for small children?

Although it is a little independent guest cottages from the main street of Yufuin, it is a quiet inn with a hideaway atmosphere. The food is delicious in the old-style thatched-roof building, and we were able to relax when we stayed there with our family. It is on the affordable side of Yufuin Onsen, so I think it will be fine on a budget. There is a main building and a new building, so you should consider your budget and the availability of rooms.

Last year, we stayed here with my wife's parents, my family (married couple and wife, children ages 4 and 3), and my wife's younger brother on a three-generation family trip. In addition to the large open-air bath with a view that can fit about 100 people, there are several open-air baths, indoor baths, and private family baths that you can use freely. Even in Kyushu, Yufuin Onsen and Kurokawa Onsen are in a class of their own.
