  • Miyamotoke
  • I'm looking for a hot spring inn with a traditional Japanese feel, somewhere around the Tokyo metropolitan area or Tohoku.

An American friend who loves Japanese culture is coming to Japan soon. I'd like to introduce her to a traditional Japanese-style hot spring inn that will give her a real Japanese feel. Are there any recommended inns in areas that are easy to get to from Tokyo, such as the Tokyo metropolitan area or Tohoku? We're two women, so I can confidently recommend a nice inn!

Miyamotoke

510 Nagaru, Ogano-machi, Chichibu-gun

  • A traditional Japanese hot spring inn near the capital area

  • Miyamotoya is an old-style house in Saitama, and is recommended for staying with American friends. The accommodation includes two meals per night, and is a small-portion kaiseki(a traditional Japanese multiple course meal )is perfect for women, with delicate and elegant presentation, so you can enjoy delicious food to your heart's content. The exterior is retro and classical, but the interior has a modern feel, so it is also recommended for those who value cleanliness.

Kanmuheishiyukarinoyado Ageha

727-1 Yunishigawa, Nikko-shi

  • It's a hot spring inn that looks like an old Japanese house!

  • "Yunishigawa Onsen Ageha Inn, an inn associated with the Kanmu Heishi clan," is a genuine old-style house that was relocated from the 150-year-old village mayor's residence in the former Kuriyama village, where you can experience staying in a traditional Japanese old-style house. The building, built along a clear stream, is beautifully decorated with lamps and features a thatched roof and traditional clay walls with snow lanterns. For dinner and breakfast, you can enjoy the famous Japanese hearth cuisine and creative local cuisine. The hot spring has a large public bath, an open-air bath, and even a private bath, so you can enjoy Visiting hot springs in the hot springs.

Kamiyashiki Taira no Takafusa

  • A hidden hot spring Ryokan (Japanese inn) in Yunishigawa Onsen

  • Located at the very back of Yunishigawa Onsen, it is filled with the atmosphere of a hidden hot spring. You can enjoy rare dishes such as wild vegetable dishes that you can't usually taste, and there are private baths, so foreigners will be pleased. Eating a kaiseki meal Japanese hearth will also be a valuable experience. Bokyotei is a relocated old house that is over 80 years old, and can accommodate from 4 to a maximum of 15 people, so it is recommended for group trips such as friends or family trips. The renovated rooms are clean and comfortable. It is Ryokan (Japanese inn) Ryokan (Japanese inn) foreigners to encounter Japanese culture.

Yudaki-no-Yado Nishiya

1527 Seki, Yonezawa-shi

  • A thatched roof Ryokan (Japanese inn) from the Edo period. With Japanese hearth, you can experience the Japanese atmosphere.

  • I recommend Nishiya in Shirabu Takayu Onsen, which is about 30 minutes by car from Yonezawa Station on the Yamagata Shinkansen. The building, built in the Edo period, is charming and has a lovely Japanese hearth. The new wing also has rooms with beds, so I think it will be fine for foreigners who are not used to sleeping on futons on tatami mats. You can enjoy the hot springs and Yonezawa beef, a specialty of this region.

Hinoki Buro no Yado Bunke

7 Idaira, Yumoto, Tenei-mura, Iwase-gun

  • This is a recommended hot spring inn that resembles an old Tohoku house.

  • This thatched-roof inn is a 150-year-old traditional house that was founded in 1841 during the Edo period. Although it may seem old, all four rooms are clean. You can enjoy the natural hot spring water, which is a sodium, calcium, and chloride spring, 100% natural hot spring in separate cypress baths for men and women. As for meals, you can eat a country-style meal made with plenty of seasonal ingredients, mainly mountain vegetables and river fish. The additional dishes, such as Fukushima beef teppanyaki, horse sashimi, and trout sashimi, are particularly delicious.
