18-7 Ekihigashi-cho

538-1 Nakano cho, Shijo agaru, Nakagyo-ku

  • A hotel with hot springs and a good location in Kyoto city

  • I recommend this hotel, which is under 8,000 yen and includes no meals. The hotel is located in Kyoto City, and is conveniently located near the station, making it easy to access all the tourist spots in Kyoto. The rooms are clean and have plenty of amenities. There is also a natural hot spring, so you can relax after your trip. When you stay there, make sure you choose a window where you can see the bonfires. I think anything under 8,000 yen would be considered a business hotel class.

  • Recommended for those who are new to Shukubo

  • Shukubo is located near Sanjusangendo Temple in Kyoto, and although it is called Shukubo, it is modern, so it is recommended for first-time Shukubo. You can view treasures such as the sliding screen paintings that Toyotomi Hideyoshi commissioned Hasegawa Tohaku to paint in memory of Tsurumatsu, who died at a young age, and the lodging is characterized by the fact that a monk will guide you through the temple. You can choose between Kyoto kaiseki and shojin ryori (traditional Japanese cuisine).

  • A hotel with easy access to downtown Kyoto near Karasuma Station

  • It is conveniently located in Karasuma Sanjo in the center of Kyoto, just a 2-minute walk from Karasuma Oike Station. The British-style interior ignores the traditional Kyoto atmosphere, but Hotel Monterey Kyoto is a calm and elegant hotel. Another attractive feature is that the accommodation fee is reasonable for a high-class hotel. There is also a natural hot spring spa on the top floor. There is a plan that allows you to view the Gozan no Okuribi fires from the top floor.

  • Kyoto's Shukubo offer a variety of plans

  • This is Shukubo located in Chion-in Temple, a famous tourist spot in Kyoto. All rooms are equipped with a bath, toilet, and air conditioning. There are also rooms with beds. The cuisine, which uses seasonal ingredients, is kaiseki cuisine, which is especially recommended for those who are not satisfied with shojin cuisine. Although it does not feel like Shukubo lodging, you can experience copying sutras, and it is a lodging where you can experience luxuries that are a little different from ordinary Shukubo.

Also, if you are looking for a cheap place to stay, Hotel Hokke Club Kyoto is the best choice. It is about a 1-minute walk from Kyoto Station, and there are izakayas and coffee shops inside the building.

  • A cheap accommodation in the center of Kyoto that is also recommended as a base for sightseeing

  • If you are looking for a hotel near Sanjusangendo Temple in Kyoto, how about Hotel Sunroute Kyoto? It is within walking distance of Kawaramachi Station and Kiyomizu-Gojo Station, and is also close to Sanjusangendo Temple in Kyoto. The rooms are modern Western-style and the room rates are reasonable. I think you will be able to relax there.

  • Recommended for beginners

  • The Ninnaji Temple Shukubo in Kyoto are easy for beginners to experience. It is conveniently located for sightseeing, close to Kinkakuji Temple. The room did not have much of a Shukubo atmosphere, more like a private lodging. There was also a large public bath. The food was a luxurious kaiseki meal that you would never expect at Shukubo, and it was delicious. I went to bed early, participated in the morning service, and had a conversation, so I was able to spend my time there very meaningfully.

15 Shogoin Nakamachi, Sakyo-ku, Kyoto-shi

  • The glory of Shogoin Temple opening as Ryokan (Japanese inn)

  • Kyoto's Shukubo are open to the public, and the elegant gardens of Shogoin Temple attract the attention of tourists. It is also possible to stay overnight without meals, but please check with the lodging facility directly as this is a matter of consultation. Sanjusangendo Temple is within walking distance, and Heian Shrine and Ginkakuji Temple are also nearby. It is also wonderful to stroll around Higashiyama's Philosopher's Path and Shisendo Jozanji Temple, which have a stylish, wabi-sabi atmosphere.

  • Recommended for a luxurious Shukubo experience

  • I think it's the best among the many Shukubo. It's Shukubo at a temple in Mount Koya in Wakayama Prefecture, and you can choose from a Japanese and Western room suite with a bed to a simple 10-tatami Japanese-style room. Of course, the price is reasonable. However, you can experience the same things you can at a regular Shukubo, such as copying sutras and enjoying vegetarian cuisine. Depending on the plan, you can even have meals in your room. Rather than a trip for young people, I think it's perfect as a gift trip for parents who want to try sightseeing at Mount Koya for once.
